    Jason Benkendorf

    Executive Director

Jason Benkendorf has served as the Executive Director of American University Hillel since 2011.  Under his leadership, Hillel has more than tripled student involvement and launched a wide range of initiatives to engage, educate, and empower Jewish students.  Prior to his work with Hillel, Jason founded and led the mid-Atlantic region of The Curriculum Initiative (TCI), an organization that facilitated inclusive Jewish programming at independent high schools.  He also served as Senior Officer of Public and Academic Affairs at the Embassy of Israel, during which time he worked closely with students at AU and other DC area campuses. Jason has been involved with BBYO in a variety of capacities over the last 20 years. A passion for public service brought Jason to DC, and he received his BA in political science from the AU School of Public Affairs. He subsequently completed an MBA at Johns Hopkins University with a concentration in organization development. Jason is a devoted Washington Nationals fan, a summer camp enthusiast, and a lover of flip-flops.

  • Mollie Feldman

Assistant Director & Senior Jewish Educator

Mollie Feldman joined the AU Hillel team in 2017.  She came to us after receiving two master's degrees from the Hornstein Jewish Professional Leadership Program at Brandeis University.  Mollie previously served as the youth director at a synagogue in Minneapolis and as an educator at Brandeis Collegiate Institute, an innovative four-week residential program for Jewish young adults.  She completed the Experiential Jewish Educators Program at the Pardes Institute in Jerusalem and received a Certificate in Experiential Jewish Education from Hebrew Union College.  Mollie is a natural relationship-builder, a talented educator, and we couldn't be happier to have her at AU!

  • Michaela Brown

    Development Associate

Michaela Brown became Hillel's Development Associate in 2017 after graduating from the University of Virginia, where her academic concentrations were Jewish studies and women, gender, and sexuality studies.  She was deeply involved with Hillel as a student, has interned for a number of Jewish organizations, and spent a year prior to college serving as the International President of BBYO.  Michaela is excited to be back in the Washington area, where she grew up, and to be part of our AU Hillel community!
